Upgrade of technical analysis package offers more expert advisors

UPGRADE -- EQUIS International has released MetaStock 6.5 technical analysis and charting software. The new version improves the expert advisor module introduced in MetaStock 6.0, adds new analysis tools, new line studies, improves formula capabilities, and adds more Internet integration.

The improved expert advisor module adds more multimedia features, such as videos of experts explaining their commentary; more experts; a commentary feature that lets the user view a report for any point in a chart; and new right-click menus, among other user-requested additions.

A long list of new analysis tools includes studies such as Chaikin money flow, the market facilitation index, options expiration, and many more. Four new line studies are the ODDS probability cones, standard deviation channel, standard error channel, and triangles.

MetaStock's formulary now supports custom variables, multiple plots and user inputs. A new formula organizer wizard allows you to import sets of custom or third-party indicators, system tests, explorations and experts. To keep your secrets safe, the organizer also lets you password-protect your underlying formulas.

Internet access from the program allows the user to summon news online, find options trades from a special Web page, or jump to an online version of Steve Achelis's book Technical Analysis from A to Z for quick lookup.

The price for new users is $349; upgrade prices vary.

The same tools found in the end-of-day version, such as line drawing, Gann angles, Fibonacci retracements and extensions, Fibonacci time and profit taking index, are also found in the real-time product. Other proprietary indicators include the make-or-break indicator, which uses swing momentum to project support/resistance levels for turning points or breakout levels, and the expert trend locator (XTL) indicator, which colors price bars to indicate a trend.

Convenience features include tiling and stacking of indicators, auto page rotation, auto regression trend channels and onscreen text. Versions are available for lease on various platforms: CQG, FutureSource, Bloomberg and TradeStation.

Add-in program for TradeStation calculates astrological data

NEW -- Vibration Research Institute offers AstroTrader, a C++ add-in for Omega Research's TradeStation and SuperCharts programs. The AstroTrader program calculates astrological data, then passes the data into TradeStation's Power Editor. This allows TradeStation users to program their own indicators and systems to incorporate the astrological data.

The manual for the add-in program is posted at AstroTrader's Web site and is updated continually. New astrological indicators developed by Vibration in Easy Language are also posted on the Web site once a week.

The AstroTrader program comes with a library of Easy Language indicators already programmed. This includes indicators to identify aspects in both longitude and declination, plot astrological trendlines, identify retrograde motion and more. Some Easy Language code from Vibration comes with the program. The software developer is committed to continue the development of new indicators.

AstroTrader costs $280. A 30-day trial version of AstroTrader is available for the cost of shipping.

Trading system for capturing trends plugs in to charting software

NEW -- MX Capital has released TrendTrader, a trend trading system add-on for Omega Research's TradeStation 4.0 and SuperCharts 4.0.

The trading system uses the trader's charting software in conjunction with MX Capital's proprietary formula to scan securities data for signals, which are then filtered through special trading range and volatility filters to help the trader avoid trading in flat, choppy sideways markets or during periods of high volatility.

TrendTrader is a full-fledged trading system rather than just a set of indicators. The user can test historical data for profitability and can produce profit and statistical reports from within TradeStation or SuperCharts.

The introductory price is $567. A fully functional 30-day trial is available for $99. For a limited time, a bonus utility is included that calculates the average annual percent return, total percent return and length of time in market based on a beginning equity and margin percentage. The information is then printed to the TradeStation printlog. The utility can be added to any trading system.
